My name is Carlos A Vidal and I am one of your six At-Large City Councillors. I am also a real estate agent, local news anchor and community volunteer. I am a proud resident of Waltham since 2003. I live on Ash Street on the city’s South Side with my wife Marisol.

I was born in Lima, Peru, in April 1975. My family and I moved to the Boston area in the late ’80s to escape growing terrorism and violence in my home country.

I entered Braintree Public Schools in 1989 with no knowledge of English. At the time, I was one of very few minority students in Braintree. Growing up without a father, I quickly learned the value of hard work and shared in the responsibilities of supporting my family. I held jobs throughout my youth to help with the family’s bills and to pay for my own education.

After graduating from Braintree High School in 1993, I enrolled at Bay State College in Boston, studying hospitality management, and earning a degree in 1996. Upon graduating college, I worked as a business developer for a software company and when the dotcom bubble burst, I became a real estate agent in 2002 – a job I continue to this day with Keller Williams Realty in Needham.

Also in 2002, I met my wife Marisol and we married the following year in Boston. After our wedding, we bought and refurbished a beautiful old Victorian on tree-lined Ash Street.
In 2015

I became one of your six At-Large Councillors. A seat that I have held proudly. I have been honored to work with residents, city employees, and my fellow council members on a series or issues that affect day to day life for all our residents.

What do you love most about Waltham?

I consider Waltham to be the best place to live. As a resident I feel privileged to enjoy what our city has to offer. We have many distinct neighborhoods that make Waltham unique and rich in culture.

What would you change if you could?

As most cities in the Northeast with decaying infrastructure, we need to continue to work on improving it for future generations.

What is one burning issue you plan to address if elected?

I don’t look at Waltham as a city with issues. I look at Waltham as a city with opportunities that allow us to improve the quality of life. As I speak with residents throughout the city, three topics come up often and these are infrastructure, traffic, and development.
