Stephen L. Duffy is running for Councillor at Large and looks forward to continuing his lifelong service to the City of Waltham. Raised in Waltham, he is an experienced school administrator who, most recently, served as the principal of the Plympton School. Before Plympton, he was the Assistant Principal at the Whittemore School and Waltham High School.

Before being a school administrator, Stephen taught for eighteen years at Waltham High School, the Waltham Vocational School, and Kennedy Middle School. Stephen has already made an incredible impact on generations in Waltham as a school leader, teacher, coach, and founder of Waltham Youth Lacrosse. He has a proven record for getting things done in the city.

Stephen’s strengths include working collaboratively with all stakeholders to deepen his understanding and solving essential issues in Waltham. His skillful leadership skills enabled him to coach lacrosse professionally in Boston and New York, winning a professional championship in both cities.

Stephen holds a Bachelor of Arts in History from Westfield State and a Master of Science in Education from American International College. Stephen has a strong passion and knowledge for the city and is committed to improving the lives of all citizens in Waltham. When not at school, Stephen enjoys gardening and riding. He lives with his wife, Marianne, his son, Jack, and his daughter, Gina, who attended and graduated from Waltham Public Schools.

What do you love most about Waltham?

What I love most about Waltham are the people in the city. I’ve had the pleasure and privilege of working as an educator in the city for over 30 years, and I love the diversity Waltham offers with the people and cultures. The citizens of Waltham are always willing to support a worthwhile endeavor with incredible vigor and generosity. The people in the city make Waltham the greatest place to live.

What would you change if you could?

I want to enhance intersection and pedestrian safety throughout the city. With the tremendous growth in the city, more can be done to improve these areas in Waltham.

What is one burning issue you plan to address if elected?

The city needs to develop a stronger comprehensive plan for the city budget by creating a clear timetable for the process and including all stakeholders.
